How we got started.


Mycosource Inc. was founded by Bruno Angelo Pretto and Paula Vopni, a couple whose shared passion for ecology and sustainable agriculture blossomed into a pioneering mushroom cultivation business. Their journey began at the University of Toronto, where they met in the university’s first ecology course. Bruno, an immigrant from Northern Italy, and Paula, a fellow enthusiast of environmental studies, combined their interests to establish Mycosource. Paula and Bruno were partners in life for 57 years.

Driven by a commitment to ecological stewardship and a love for fungi, Bruno and Paula dedicated themselves to providing high-quality mushroom cultivation supplies, including custom-made sawdust spawn for shiitake and oyster mushrooms. Their mission was to support both hobbyists and commercial growers across Canada, offering not only products but also expert guidance and consulting services for sustainable mushroom farming.
