About Us
How we got started

Mycosource Inc. was founded by Bruno Pretto in 1993. He was joined by Paula Vopni a few years later. Bruno and Paula shared a passion for ecology and sustainable agriculture and this has blossomed into a pioneering mushroom cultivation business. Their journey began at Innis College at the University of Toronto, where they met in the university’s first ecology/environmental course in 1969. Bruno, an immigrant from Northern Italy, and Paula, a fellow enthusiast of environmental studies, combined their interests to develop Mycosource. They operate from a wooded property in Southern Ontario which they have named FUN GUY FARM.
Driven by a commitment to ecological stewardship and sustainable agriculture as well as a love for fungi, Bruno and Paula have develped MYCOSOURCE to focus on providing specialized mushroom cultivation supplies as well as custom-made sawdust spawn and kits for ‘wood musrhooms’ including Shiitake, Oyster, and Lion’s Mane. Previously they cultivated a range of mushrooms including shiitake and Oysters as well as Reishi and Maitake, that they sold at farmers’ markets in Toronto. Fun Guy Farm was part of the nascent farmers’ market movement in Ontario. Currently their mission is to support both hobbyists and commercial growers across Canada offering not only spawn products and specialized equipment but also expert guidance and educational services for mushroom cultivation.
