Equipment
Thumb Inoculator
This manual inoculation tool is designed specifically for sawdust spawn inoculation. Made with solid brass and a molded wooden handle; durable; replacement spring available (see below);
Made in USA. Designed to be used with one hand – press tube into loose spawn to fill up to the mark on the tube and then plunge into inoculation hole with thumb. No need to pack spawn down; fill inoculation hole to slightly below the bark. Hole must be sealed with a cap or wax (see below).
$60.00

Palm Inoculator
This manual inoculation tool is designed specifically for sawdust spawn inoculation. Made with solid brass and a molded wooden handle and a wooden top on the plunger. The spring in this tool is tighter and requires more force to push/plunge spawn into inoculation hole and is
designed to be used with both hands. Press tube into loose spawn to fill to the mark on the tube and then plunge with the palm of the opposite hand to fill the inoculation hole. No need to pack spawn down; fill to slightly below the bark. Hole must be sealed with a cap or wax (see below).
$65.00

Replacement Spring & Tip Sets
Solid brass spring and tip sets are available for each inoculation tool. The spring for the Palm
Inoculator is tighter and harder to push. Both sets will fit both tools. Easy to replace; durable –
the tools and springs are solid brass, are rust resistant and will last a lifetime.
$12.50

Auger Bit with integrated depth stop
Made specifically for log-based mushroom cultivation – leaves a clen hole at the correct depth
(1 & 1/8 th inch). Hardened steel; can be sharpened; made in Japan. Makes drilling faster and easier. Larger diameter bit allows you to put more spawn in each hole; suitable for larger diameter logs.
12.mm – $28.50
13.5mm – $30.50

Drill Bit + Depth Stop Collar
We have in stock some hardened steel bits (13.5 mm) that have no integrated depth stop; we supply the collar and Allen key to tighten. Made in Korea; can be sharpened. While quantities last.
$20.00

Angle Grinder Adapter
This adapter allows you to mount your bit onto an angle grinder – it fits/screws onto grinder shaft and is tightened with an Allen key (provided). This essentially converts the grinder (10,000 rpm) into a high-speed drill (expensive); angle grinders are relatively inexpensive and are widely available at hardware outlets/stores.
$45.00

Adapter + Bit with integrated Depth Stop Kit
Supplied as a pre-assembled kit as shown.
$68.00

Styrofoam Caps
Available in 12.5mm and 13.5mm to match bit diameter/hole size. Caps come in rolls, and you simply pinch off a cap and insert into inoculation hole on top of the spawn that you have just
inserted. Cap should sit flush with bark and not stick out (which creates vulnerability to infection and to the cap falling out). Don’t over fill inoculation holes and don’t pack spawn down.
$0.01/cap

Cheesewax
Wax is sold in block format in aluminum containers to facilitate reheating. Larger slabs of wax are sold at $12/kilo but you have to cut and melt; suitable for larger projects and for ‘handy’ cultivators.
Wax is more environmentally sound but keep in mind that wax is more difficult to use because it must be kept melted/fluid while you inoculate; you have to reheat wax for each inoculation session. You have to take safety precautions and have a responsible adult supervising the heating apparatus (coleman stove or other burner) and the handling of the melted wax; heat wax on low setting and don’t over-heat.
$15/kilo – enough for a 2.5 kilo bag of spawn
$12/1.75 kilo – enough for 1.75 kilo bag of spawn

Wax Dobbers
Dip into melted wax and dob to seal inoculation holes. Reusable. Stem is aluminum and ball is
wool so dobbers can be left in wax and then re-heated with the wax for re-use.
$0.50/each
